Season of the Sun!

Summer has arrived on the west coast in full swing! It feels amazing to get out in the sunshine or on the water. I’m lucky to be visiting Vancouver Island from the mainland— a chance to celebrate community and nature. With sunshine officially here, it’s my second season paddleboarding and I like to get on the ocean as often as possible and like to source my gear locally.
Breathe is my second home, and a trip back wouldn’t be complete without spending a day in the shop and it’s changed so much since I was here a month ago! The styles have shifted steadily towards more athleisure styles and they’ve also added menswear, so it’s not just a place for workout gear; it’s a lifestyle boutique. It also is the only hub that carries a variety of brands that are all responsibly made in North America.

The first thing I had to do was try some of the new styles on! I’m 5’6” and usually wear a dress size 12 or Large/XL, so I am always looking for fits that are flattering on a curvy body. The Michi Bra Plunge Crop Top in Large was amazing! Super supportive with thick straps to support the girls—something I always struggle to find! It’s also pretty enough to wear with some high waisted jeans or a black pencil skirt for a sexy nighttime look.

Next, I shimmied into a pair of Tonic Peak Cutout leggings in Medium, which were super comfy, and again, something I could see myself wearing more outside of my workouts, as the slits aren’t too revealing, but just give a little peekaboo of skin. I sized up to a Large and avoided feeling like my thighs were trying to escape through the cutouts.

While black is my go-to hue, I am trying to brighten up my wardrobe, so I chose some creamy coloured tanks that can show off a brightly coloured bra, while still being low-key chic. First, I tried the Tonic Path Tank, which has lacy sheer stripes up the back—adorable! Medium was a great fit for me in this style. Second, I tried the Body Language Emi Tank which is a total party in the back! I loved the breezy feel of the fabric and the back detail. I picked a Large for this style and am definitely tempted to grab it in black as well…but I’ll behave for now.

It’s only the beginning of the season and already off to a positive, sunny start.

Cheers,

Connally
